Motorized Patio Screens in Tomball, TX

A genuine small-town core with pre-war housing, ringed by some of the fastest new construction in Harris County. Both need screens, for different reasons.

Outdoor Living in Tomball

Tomball is an incorporated Harris County city, and unlike most of the places we work it has a real historic center — it was incorporated in 1933, on the back of the Tomball oil field, and the downtown grid predates the suburban growth around it by decades.

The growth is substantial. The Census put the city at 12,341 in 2020 and estimated 15,768 by mid-2025. Census data for the wider Tomball–Magnolia region shows ZIP 77375 — the core Tomball ZIP — growing close to thirty percent between 2019 and 2024, the fastest in that region. Much of that growth has arrived as new construction rather than turnover in the older housing stock.

Geographically it sits on the transition between the wooded uplands to the north and the coastal plain to the south, which shows up in the properties: heavily treed acreage north and west, and newer master-planned development along the SH 249 Tomball Tollway and toward the Grand Parkway. Amira, off Mueschke Road just north of the Grand Parkway, is one of the larger ones. Woodtrace is often called Tomball — it is actually in Pinehurst in Montgomery County, zoned to Tomball ISD, which is where the confusion comes from. We work in both.

Two starting points

Added-On Porches and Houses Still Going Up

Older Tomball housing, particularly close to the downtown grid, tends to have patio covers and porches added over decades rather than designed in. Those are perfectly workable, but the header and the mounting substrate get checked carefully before anything is specified against them.

Newer development along the tollway and toward the Grand Parkway is the opposite case, and if a house is still being built the screens should be in the drawings — see new construction and recessed installs.

Inside Tomball city limits, exterior work may be subject to city permitting in addition to any deed restrictions; outside the city limits, unincorporated Harris County has no zoning and deed restrictions do the work instead. Newer master-planned communities are commonly deed-restricted with architectural review. Confirm what applies to your property before ordering.

How it works

How a Sable Project Is Planned

01

Design consultation

We look at the space with you: how you use it, when it stops working, and which openings actually need to close.

02

Measure & specify

Every opening is measured and specified on its own — span, mounting surface, fabric, finish, and where the housing disappears.

03

Design review & planning

Where a city permit or an architectural review committee applies, we help you understand what is commonly needed.

04

Installation & programming

Once the system is installed, we program the controls and walk you through how everything works.

Questions

Tomball FAQ

Do you cover Amira, Raburn Reserve and the SH 249 communities?

Yes, along with the acreage north and west of town and the older neighborhoods around the downtown grid.

Is Woodtrace in Tomball?

Not technically — it is in Pinehurst, in Montgomery County, though it is zoned to Tomball ISD, which is why it gets called Tomball. It is inside our working area either way.

Can screens go on an older porch?

Often. What decides it is whether there is a straight, square, structurally adequate run at the head of the opening. On older construction that is a genuine question rather than a formality, and it is answered at the measure.

Will I need a city permit?

Inside the city limits that is a question for the City of Tomball, and it depends on the scope of work. We will tell you what we know, but the determination is the city's and we would not want you relying on our reading of it.

How far is Tomball from you?

Southwest of The Woodlands via FM 2920 or SH 249. It is core service area.
